WINTER HIKE SERIES
Spend some outdoor time this winter on a series of winter hikes. The free hikes are open to all Ringwood Cub Scouts and families. These hikes are run by pack 140, who welcomes Pack 96 cub scouts & friends. Each hike will begin at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. If the weather is lousy, plan for a shorter hike than expected. Bring your own granola bar and water bottle. In inclement weather, call Amy at 973-962-4864 for cancellation information. ALWAYS expect winter conditions and dress in warm layers with sturdy, waterproof shoes. Purchase the North Jersey Trails Map 115 to find these trails easily.

March 7th Burnt Meadow Trail. To find the trail head, travel on Greenwood Lake Tpke past Long Pond Ironworks Visitor Center. Turn left onto Burnt Meadow Road and travel about 1 mile south to the parking area near the trail. From the parking, hike out and back on the Burnt Meadow trail west across Hewitt Brook to the lookout, just before reaching the Hewitt Butler Trail (blue). 1.6 miles. Energetic hikers can extend the hike by going east on the Burnt Meadow Trail then east on the Horse Pond Mountain Trail (white) to the lookout, with the entire Monksville Reservoir visible below, 0.8 miles.
March 21 Cupsaw Brook Trail. Park at Shepherd Lake in Ringwood State Park and hike west (beyond the parking booth) on the Ringwood‐Ramapo Trail (red on white blazes). Go north at Cupsaw Brook Trail. Then turn back at Cooper‐Union Trail (yellow) or bear left to continue on the yellow trail for about a half‐mile to rejoin the Ringwood‐Ramapo Trail (red on white). Continue on the red trail back to the parking area at Shepherd Lake
